CHIPPING NORTON FREEMASONS

INTEGRITY – FRIENDSHIP – RESPECT – SERVICE

The people of Chipping Norton showed their deep respect and community spirit by turning out in strong numbers for this year’s Remembrance Day parade, undeterred by the wet, overcast weather. Despite the drizzle, participants formed up promptly at 10:40 a.m., with a diverse lineup representing many facets of the community. Leading the parade were the Air Cadets and Army Cadets, followed by young members of the Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Girl Guides, Brownies, and Rainbows. Among them, a member of the Thames Valley Police joined in support, and the Fire Brigade brought up the rear, adding a sense of solidarity and security to the procession.

As the parade began, the rhythmic beat of the drum set the pace as the crowd moved down Church Street. Midway along the route, they paused for a poignant moment to lay a wreath in memory of those who perished in a night flying accident in 1942—a solemn reminder of local sacrifices and the personal stories held within the town’s history.

The parade continued to the church, where a heartfelt service took place, giving attendees time for reflection and to pay their respects. The procession then made its way back to the town hall, where the entire assembly gathered to sing the National Anthem, uniting voices in a touching display of patriotism and reverence. As people disbanded and began their journeys home, many took the opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors, sharing stories and memories, making the event not just a commemoration but a celebration of community bonds.
